When it comes to your money, it’s important to get to know the people behind a company. Meet Chris Jay, CFP®, a Senior Wealth Manager at Doyle Wealth Management.
His primary job? From investment research and security selection, to financial planning – Chris makes sure clients are saving enough and just as importantly, not spending too much. He also helps clients with estate planning, insurance and tax planning. “I want to be their primary trusted financial advisor,” says Chris.
Chris was listed by Forbes as the Top Next-Gen Wealth Advisors in 2018.
What is it about being a wealth manager that appealed to you?
I wanted to have a career where I could place my entire focus on a client’s success, helping them develop financial goals and plans to help them accomplish their version of success. As a fee-only firm, our only incentive is to make our clients happy. There’s no emphasis on personal sales. When the client is the focus, it makes it very satisfying to go home each night and know I’m always working in the best interest of each client.
What prior experience do you have?
I have been in the financial services industry since 2007. This was just before the S&P fell more than 50 percent. While this time period was an unsettling time to be getting into this business, it taught me an important lesson: Each person I was able to coach through taking a long term view and not jumping ship and going into a certificate of deposit or an annuity ended up being in a much better spot 3, 5, 10 years later because of our conversations. People need someone they can trust to talk with and give them knowledgeable, unbiased advice to keep them on track.
When I’m not working, I…
Like to travel with my family. I make it a habit to try new things and occasionally find a great restaurant. I always eat somewhere with a line out the door.
A fun(ny) fact about Chris Jay:
With a 3 year-old daughter and 1 year-old son, “fun” tends to be centered around fairy tale characters and theme parks. Each Halloween, we always have a family theme. It was the Addams family 2 years ago, followed by the Wizard of Oz. This year it’s the Little Mermaid.
Anything else we should know?
I serve on the Investment Committee with DWM, so I research new companies and investment ideas, which ends up taking me around the world. I come back from these trips and extensively research companies to see if they might be great investments.
